This devotion was introduced into the Church of England in the nineteenth century. The first hour is now sometimes incorporated into the structure of the second. It is a widespread custom for there not to be a celebration of the Eucharist on Good Friday
This midday service provides an opportunity to reflect in silence, through hymns and through scripture on the sacrifice and death of the Lord Jesus Christ. We also have an opportunity to pray for the world, for others and for ourselves. May this service be a reminder of the Lord who came “not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many”.
All are welcomed to this special service.

The Vigil is probably the oldest feature of the Easter celebrations. From its earliest times, the Church would keep watch through the night and meditate on the mighty works of God. Christians would pray until the earliest hours of the morning when Christ’s resurrection was acclaimed.
The heart of the Vigil is the reading of following key passages from Scripture telling of God’s saving love.
- The Creation – Genesis 1.1 – 2.4a
- The Fall – Genesis 3
- Moses and the burning bush – Exodus 3.1-6
- The Passover – Exodus 12.1-24
- Crossing the Red Sea – Exodus 14
- I will save you from all your afflictions – Isaiah 54.5-15
- The river of life – Ezekiel 47.1-12
- Jerusalem praises God – Zephaniah 3.14-end
All are welcomed to this special service.

This service is held weekly at 8:00am on Sundays and 10:00am fortnightly on Wednesdays. Please check the Parish calendar for the latest services
The service follows the Common Worship structure and is supported by the recently refreshed Service Book. The service reflects the community’s love for traditional Liturgy, Bible readings, the Word of God, Reflection, Intercessions, and Holy Communion, all within the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
This is a non-Eucharistic Service celebrating the resurrection of Christ, the cornerstone of our faith. The informal structure, complemented by a Service Book and overhead projection of the service, reflects our love for Worship Hymns / Songs, Bible readings, the Word of God and Intercessions, all within the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
We look forward to seeing you.
